The Epoch Calescent
The Old City
At least some part of Old Chiaroscuro survives to this day. Two small clusters of unbroken towers still sit at the center of the city, and while they were far from the tallest when originally constructed, now their ten to fifteen level height defines Chiaroscuro’s skyline. These unbroken towers are home to the city’s elite- Merchant-Princes, Delzahn nobles, and Dynasts all share the Essence-powered luxury of these towers. Elevators, lights, climate control and waterworks all still work. Some of the most well-maintained and expensive buildings include the Cyan Spire of Winds, the Opal Gardens Minaret, and the Seven Tigers Blood Tower.
Outside these clusters, most of the towers are broken. However, even in the so-called “ruins” of Old Chiaroscuro there are shattered towers whose lower floors still remain habitable. They usually retain some sort of First Age convenience, but what that may be varies and affects the rent considerably. About 100,000 people live in the Old City, paying rent to the Tri-Khan. For a Delzahn noble, rent is modest, but non-Delzahn pay exorbitant fees for the privilege of living in the finest part of the city.
